The lip & spur drill bits are a variation of the twist drill bit which is optimised for drilling in wood. It is also called the brad point bit or dowelling bit.

Spur and point wood bits are the preferred cutting tip design for drilling wood, these alloy steel drills have a steeper twist and a deeper flute than HSS bits, for rapid clearance of waste. They are ideal for use in dowelling jigs.

The spurred centring point enables drill bit to be positioned exactly on a pre-marked spot before drilling commences.

The preferred type of cutting tip for drilling wood, with a steeper helix angle than standard drill bits. They are also deeper fluted for a rapid clearance of waste, which enables the drill to cut quickly and cleanly. The appropriate sizes are suitable for dowelling jigs.
